Suzannah & Nathan Stephan & Zara

The Northern Harmony Quartet is visiting on the West coast by popular demand
for a month of workshops and concerts presenting harmony singing traditions from around the world.
Suzannah Park and Nathan Morrison are joined for this tour by Zara Bode and Stefan Amidon.

These four young singers stretch the boundaries of choral music with their command of varied world ethnic singing styles. Their concert program and workshops include South African songs and dances; traditional and contemporary American shape-note songs, Appalachian and honky-tonk harmonies, and quartet gospel arrangements; traditional sacred and secular songs from Caucasus Georgia, Corsica and Bulgaria. Performing primarily a cappella, the group enjoys accompanying some numbers with guitar, drums, and piano. The Northern Harmony Quartet is an extension of the group Northern Harmony (NH) led by Larry Gordon and Patty Cuyler. The members of this quartet have all toured extensively with NH across the US and throughout Europe.

Suzannah ParkSuzannah Park comes from a family of three generations of traditional musicians and storytellers. She has been performing most of her life. Suzannah has been teaching singing for many years and at Village Harmony (VH) camps for the past nine years – as one of their most popular teachers. Recently, Suzannah was the featured singer and musical advisor for the Revels Christmas performances in New Hampshire, Texas and Massachuestts. With her powerful singing voice and charismatic teaching style, she is an extremely valuable teacher – and pleasure to hear.

Nathan MorrisonNathan Morrison is a fine tenor, a banjo player and a jazz piano man. He's toured extensively with VH and NH. Growing up in Vermont next door to VH and NH founder, Larry Gordon, music always filled his life. Currently living in North Carolina, he performs widely as a duo with his wife, Suzannah, to the great delight of audiences across the country. Nathan's easy-going manner and love of singing is a joy in any workshop or concert setting.

Zara BodeZara Bode first drew attention with the highly decorated a capella group, 5-alone. She has since studied musical theater at the University of the Arts, toured with NH and works now in NYC arranging and recording background vocals in studio settings. Zara tours extensively in the powerful group The Sweetback Sisters with fellow vocalist, teacher and NH veteran, Emily Miller. A native Californian, settled in Brooklyn now, Zara is a natural performer and teacher. Her soulful singing is not to be missed!

Stephan AmidonStephan Amidon grew up singing in his family's band, The Amidons, and with VH and NH. He is a prize bass singer and is the percussionist of choice for several of America's favorite contra dance bands. Since graduating from the Oberlin Conservatory, Stephan has enjoy playing drums in jazz bands big and small and with his avant/folk artist brother, Sam Amidon. Stephan is the percussionist and harmony vocalist with The Sweetback Sisters honky tonk band. He is a treat to hear.
